Trip Reviews

My son, TJ and I had one of the best times of our lives together fishing in Alaska in summer of 2009. We stayed at Alaska’s River Wild Lodge; our accommodations were second to none. I have stayed at many different outfitters cabins and lodges and the rooms here were the best I have ever been in. Seth and his wife, Jeelan, are outstanding hosts. They welcomed us into their home and treated us like family. The food was absolutely amazing. Three years later we still talk about the steaks and the breakfasts we ate there and we will never forget the fresh Salmon that was prepared for us. The Salmon was the best I have ever had!! Seth is a very fun and friendly person to be around and he works extremely hard to make sure that your stay is absolutely the best experience you can have. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking to experiencing the best that Alaska has to offer.Todd Tuls

For those of you looking for a great fly fishing experience I cannot recommend River Wild Lodge in Port Alsworth, Alaska highly enough. There are many reasons for my high praise. First of all, unlike many of the larger fishing operations in Alaska you will be treated like an individual rather than just another fisherman. Seth and Jeelan Kroenke, husband and wife, take a personal interest in you and will provide whatever services you need to make your adventure special. The accommodations are first rate and the food is fantastic. Seth is a highly qualified pilot and can get you to about any spot on most of the great rivers in Alaska. Once there he dons his guide gear and helps put you within casting distance of whatever species you are looking for. The huge Rainbows are my personal favorite. I plan to return to River Wild several times a year as long as I am able.Bob Pettus – Charlotte, NC

While most Alaska outfitters and guides cater to fishermen and hunters, as professional wildlife photographers, my wife and I were more interested in the pursuit of Alaska’s diverse wild creatures. Seth and Jeelan Kroenke, owners of Alaska’s River Wild Lodge provided those opportunities in abundance. From a hydro-jet boat excursion down crystal clear river to a scenic lake…the first birds within lens range were Merganzer ducks…to photographing my wife being introduced to the wonders of fly-fishing…now she is “hooked”!
With Seth as our pilot, the following days included flights to Naknek Lake to go to Brooks Camp and Moraine Creek by Kukaklek Lake in the KatMai National Preserve to photograph the awesome brown bears as they foraged for salmon. Showy Willow Ptarmigans were also captured on digital in the Preserve bush. No point in trying to describe the gourmet cooking talents of Jeelan Kroenke, except to apply the adjective “superb”! Her delicious bill of fare included homemade biscuits with moose gravy, baked halibut w/dill and lime smothered in a cilantro/red pepper cream sauce, grilled sockeye salmon with Cajun spice, smoked pork ribs and succulent rib eye steaks, peach cream pie and scrumptious creme brulee. The River Wild Lodge accommodations were undeniable the best….spotlessly clean and comfortable. We enjoyed our meals in the rustic but beautifully modern dining room of the upper level where large picture windows overlook Lake Clark’s forested Chigmit Mountains. If you and yours are seeking a truly distinctly unique and exciting adventure in wild Alaska, simply call up Alaska’s River Wild Lodge.

I should have written this note a long time ago. It’s been about 18 months now since we met and I hunted Dall Sheep with you. To be honest, I was kind of expecting that I would “settle down” after a while and the high would wear off. Here I am today as excited and as high as I was 18 months ago.
Booking this trip with you was a HUGE step outside of my box. While I had dreamed of a sheep hunt, I didn’t really expect that I would actually ever go. I had too many questions / doubts, can I afford it? Can I handle the physical and mental part of it? Am I too old? Thank goodness I have a wife that told me to just go for it when everything seemed to come together.
I can say without exaggerating, that every single day since, I have spent time dreaming about what an awesome adventure I had, and how lucky I am to have met you, your family and everyone associated with the hunt. During the short time I was with you, the guides and the cook, life long friendships were started. There have been very few times in my life that I have met this many people at one time of such great character.
There wasn’t any one part of the adventure that was “the best”. The plane rides were fantastic!! The mountains were absolutely mesmerizing, the sheep, beautiful, beyond description. I think there was only one day that we didn’t see any sheep. Camps were as comfortable as being at home. Food was perfect. I can’t say it was the best two weeks of my life because my wife and kids might take offense, but it was way, way, way up there!!
