The June 1912 Mount Novarupta eruption and altered the Katmai area dramatically. It was the largest volcanic eruption in the 20th century and enormous quantities of hot, glowing pumice and ash were ejected from the mountain. This material flowed over the terrain, destroying all life in its path. The terrain was forever changed and became one of the most sought after geological phenomenon’s to visit.
